‘Fantastic’ New FIA F3 Prize Test For British F3 Champ Applauded By Hillspeed

Markham Vale-based BRDC British Formula 3 Championship team Hillspeed has applauded the announcement today, Thursday, 3rd December, of a major new prize for the 2021 champion as well as the introduction of a fully-fledged Teams’ Championship for next season.

Revealed this morning by Jonathan Palmer, Chief Executive of BRDC British F3 organiser MotorSport Vision, next year’s title winner in the world’s premier domestic F3 category will be awarded a prize test in FIA Formula 3 Championship machinery.

Added to the prestige of winning the coveted British F3 crown, following in the wheeltracks of the likes of Daniel Ricciardo, Mika Hakkinen and Ayrton Senna, the 2021 champion will benefit from the sensational opportunity to showcase their skills during next winter’s official FIA F3 testing in Spain.

Also new for next season in BRDC British F3 will be the arrival of a Teams’ Championship, something which Hillspeed team principal Richard Ollerenshaw is particularly delighted to see introduced. Each squad’s two best placed cars in each of the 24 races will score points in the team battle.

“The championship providing such a fantastic prize for next season is brilliant”, commented Ollerenshaw, “The opportunity for the champion to test an FIA F3 level car is something all drivers will certainly want to win, and the prize clearly shows the prominent position BRDC British F3 has on the single-seater motorsport ladder.

“Many drivers who have participated in British F3 over the years have established strong careers in the highest echelons of the sport and this incredible prize will no doubt help the drivers of the future do the same.”

He added: “The launch of the Teams’ prize for 2021 is a welcome introduction to the championship. Sometimes in a season it is immediately apparent there is a ‘stand-out driver’ who will dominate the Drivers’ Championship, so a Teams’ Championship keeps everyone in the fight for a title.

“It is going to be essential for teams that points are scored with both cars at each round of the championship to be in with a chance of winning the new title. We are exceptionally proud of our preparation at Hillspeed, and the reliability and speed of our cars, so when combining this with our driver development we realistically want to be fighting at the front for the Teams’ title next year.”

Oulton Park International Circuit in Cheshire, the traditional home of the BRDC British F3 curtain raiser, is scheduled to host the opening event of the 2021 season across Easter weekend with track action on Saturday, 3rd April, and Easter Monday, 5th April. The planned 24-race campaign is set to conclude on 11th/12th September at Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit in Leicestershire.
