Double Podium For Hallman At Baking Hot Oulton As Hillspeed Takes Lead Of GB4 Team Championship

Markham Vale motor racing squad Hillspeed has taken the lead of the GB4 Championship partnered by the BRDC team standings, following a successful Spring Bank Holiday Weekend of action at a scorching Oulton Park International Circuit in Cheshire.

Enzo Hallman took his second podium result of the 2026 season on Saturday, 23rd May, in round four and then added another top three finish during round five on Bank Holiday Monday, 25th May. The Swedish racer then charged from 10th on the grid to finish sixth in round six on Monday afternoon.

America’s Connor Willis impressed on only his second weekend of GB4 racing, finishing seventh and ninth in the first two races and then delivering a season-best fourth place in round six. Willis pressured the top three hard throughout, just missing a maiden podium by a mere 0.2 seconds.

His compatriot Demitri Nolan enjoyed the best outing of his rookie campaign as well, with a 14th place result in Saturday’s contest and then adding two more points finishes with 20th in race two and then 16th in the third encounter.

Strongest weekend of GB4 season so far for Hillspeed trio

After two productive days of testing hopes were high for qualifying, but Hallman’s bid was impacted early on when a problem with his steering wheel meant the car became stuck in sixth gear – triggering a pit visit for a new steering wheel to be fitted. Even though missing the first five minutes, and having laps impacted by yellow flag zones, he still scorched to third on the grid for rounds four and five.

Willis performed strongly with the ninth quickest time for the race one grid and an enhanced eighth for race two with his second best time, while Nolan was 19th fastest for round four and 22nd on the race two grid – one of his laps was disallowed for a track limits infringement.

Saturday’s race began well for all three Hillspeed drivers. Hallman initially challenged for second into Old Hall before tucking back in to third, while Willis climbed into seventh and Nolan passed no fewer than three cars on the opening tour. Thereafter overtaking opportunities were hard to come by and Hallman and Willis maintained position to the flag, whereas Nolan was able to progress to 14th spot.

Following a race-free Sunday, the action resumed on Bank Holiday Monday where air temperature was 24 degrees for round five. Hallman launched well from third and momentarily got alongside for second into Old Hall, but had to sit behind the top two on the exit. Willis started strongly from eighth, but was edged back to ninth before the Safety Car was deployed, and Nolan climbed into the top 20.

The cautionary period, needed after a tangle at Cascades, ended ahead of lap four and Hallman was determined to challenge for second. Despite his pace, just a tenth shy of the fastest lap, the dirty air rendered any attempts impossible and so he finished third again. Willis and Nolan were in similar positions with overtaking at a premium, and duly ended the race ninth and 20th respectively.

Willis lined-up fourth on the round six grid, air temperature 31 degrees for the last GB4 race of the weekend, and he maintained position nicely off the start. Midway around the lap, though, a tangle lower down the order led to the race being red flagged. Hallman had risen from 10th to eighth with a strong first half a lap, while Nolan also gained two places up to 17th before the stoppage.

At the second time of asking Willis held position off the re-start and although elbowed back to fifth on lap two, he hit back impressively the next time around. Swarming all over the podium battle, Willis was tantalisingly close and just missed out by a fraction – a very strong and assured drive.

Hallman gained one place to ninth on the first lap of the re-start and set the pace early on as he continued to rise into the top eight. Performing well and creating some good opportunities, he grabbed seventh on lap six and then completed an impressive showing by taking sixth the next time around.

Early progress was also made by Nolan, climbing into 18th place. With little to choose between the contenders, a shake-up on the final lap enabled him to sweep through into 16th to cap a competitive drive. In terms of pace, Willis and Hallman were within 0.2s of fastest lap and Nolan just six tenths away.

Richard Ollerenshaw – Hillspeed Team Principal:
“All in all it’s been an exceptional weekend for the team, Oulton is another circuit close to our base and so is close to my and Morgan’s [Ollerenshaw – team founder] hearts as well – we always want to do well here. It’s been a very solid weekend in terms of both the Team and Driver Championships, and great to see Enzo take a couple more podiums.

“Connor was incredibly close to the podium in race three, a very strong drive, and confirmed the great progress he’s making in his first season of GB4. Demitri showed very strong progress and development as well with his pace and consistency, overall we’re very pleased but there’s no rest as we prepare to head to Spa for next weekend’s racing with our GB3 team.”

Enzo Hallman – P3 Rd4 and P3 Rd5:
“I made a small mistake in T1 [Rd4], I think I touched the grass a little bit and the rear fell out so that’s really when I lost them. When you’re losing the tow it’s quite impossible to gain back, so we were trying to keep the tyres as good as possible. It was a good race, just keep it simple and clean.

“Of course [Rd5 was] a hot race. I think I had a very good start, I was side-by-side with [Fred] Green and the pace felt really good, I felt really fast. But in the dirty air we can’t do much at this track. I was catching him, getting understeer, dropped back. Catching him, getting understeer and dropped back.”

There is now a five-week break in the GB4 calendar with rounds seven, eight and nine taking place at Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit on 27th/28th June. This coming weekend, 30th/31st May, Hillspeed will be back on track with its GB3 Championship squad at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
