True junior single-seater racing
Throughout the noughties, Hillspeed enjoyed a successful tenure in Formula Renault racing, both in the Formula Renault UK Championship and sister Formula Renault BARC Championship.
In the latter, a history-making title victory in 2010 with Alice Powell was the undoubted highlight. By winning the crown, Powell – who has since gone on to race in Formula 3 and the W Series – became the first female to win a Formula Renault category in the world.
Formula Renault UK, best known for producing future FIA Formula One World Champions Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton, brought Winter Series title success for Hillspeed with Welsh driver Richard Singleton in 2007. Back in 2003, Hillspeed was contracted to give McLaren F1 supported racer ‘Franky’ Cheng Congfu his Formula Renault UK debut.
