Motorsport Almost Ready To Resume For Hillspeed With Revised British F3 Season Revealed
Hillspeed is once again ramping up its preparations for the 2020 motor racing season, the team’s milestone 50th anniversary year in motorsport, following the announcement this week by the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship of a revised 24-race post-lockdown calendar.
Since welcoming the planned six date provisional schedule which was originally revealed last month, British F3 has now added a seventh event – an additional visit to Donington Park, Hillspeed’s ‘home’ circuit, for the penultimate race meeting of the season at the end of October.
Set to begin over the weekend 1st/2nd August at Oulton Park in Cheshire with a bumper four-race event to kick-off the overdue start to the new campaign, the championship will then make the first of three visits to Donington in Leicestershire a fortnight later with a triple-header on the GP track.
On 29th/30th August, the second of the big four-race weekends will take place at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit in Kent with a return to Donington then following on 19th/20th September for a triple header event.
Norfolk’s Snetterton 300 Circuit will host four races on 3rd/4th October, before the third and final trip to Donington on 24th/25th October. The season finale will take place on 7th/8th November at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit in Northamptonshire.
British F3 will run alongside the Intelligent Money British GT Championship at six of the seven events, the exception being the penultimate race meeting of the year at Donington Park where the F3 action will be the standalone headline attraction.
With the important caveat of all dates remaining provisional subject to any developments linked to the coronavirus pandemic, team principal of Markham Vale-based Hillspeed, Richard Ollerenshaw, is delighted the start of the 2020 season looks to be just seven weeks away.
“We were very happy indeed with the provisional calendar announced by BRDC British F3 and MSV [MotorSport Vision] last month, but with an extra visit to Donington now included and confirmation of a full 24 race schedule we really are delighted with what’s being delivered”, he said.
“We’re ramping up our preparations once again with the confirmation of the planned calendar, and so Hillspeed is welcoming interest from drivers who are looking to be back racing in one of the most competitive F3 championships in the world.
“With every event taking place in the UK, the potential difficulties drivers may face in Europe or globally with travel from country-to-country can be avoided. Additionally, as part of the package we’re offering for overseas drivers, we’re including accommodation close to the team HQ to provide a UK base for the duration of the championship. Our package really does represent incredible value.”
