GB3 & GB4 To Both Be Supported By BRDC In 2022

Hillspeed has warmly welcomed today’s announcement by MotorSport Vision (MSV) of a continuation of support by the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) for the GB3 Championship in 2022 – a partnership which will also extend to the new GB4 Championship.

Marking the 10th consecutive year of support by the Silverstone-based BRDC for GB3, which was previously known as BRDC British F3 and, before that, BRDC F4, the high-profile link is an extremely important one for the UK’s premier single-seater championship and its new junior sister category.

MSV’s ongoing partnership with the BRDC entitles GB3 and GB4 drivers to a range of exclusive benefits, including entry to the iconic BRDC Clubhouse for competitors and up to three family members at the two rounds which will be contested next season at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit.

The championships will also receive additional media support from the BRDC, which provides coverage through its own communication channels, and the eventual GB3 Champion next year will be awarded the specially commissioned Jim Clark Trophy, modelled on the F1 legend’s distinctive Buco helmet. This will be presented at the prestigious BRDC Annual Awards at the end of 2022.

Should the champion be a British driver, they will also be eligible for BRDC SuperStar status. Seb Morris, who raced very successfully in BRDC F4 with Hillspeed, before going on to become a factory driver on the international stage with Bentley, is himself a former BRDC SuperStar and a driver who benefitted hugely from racing with Hillspeed in that championship.

All GB3 and GB4 cars will carry prominent BRDC logos, which will also be visible on driver overalls, paddock vehicles, the race winners’ podium and the championship’s various online channels. In recognition of the importance of the relationship, both championships are now rebranded with the strapline ‘Partnered by the BRDC’.

MSV Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer said: “The BRDC has been inspiringly committed and very active in developing and promoting young British driver talent for many years now, and I am delighted that the BRDC will continue to do so with its renewed partnership with GB3, whilst extending that into GB4 too. The BRDC Board and, I’m sure, all the club’s members share my enthusiasm for giving ambitious, frequently modestly funded British drivers the best opportunities to learn, develop, prove and showcase their talent to give them the best chance to realise their goals, which may be F1, sports cars or touring cars. I am extremely proud of particularly George Russell, who came to prominence winning our BRDC F4 Championship in 2014, using that platform to help him on his path to become a star of F1.

“What is critical for such drivers is single seater series that provide high performance, equal cars at the most affordable cost. BRDC F4 did that then, GB3 does it now and our new GB4 Championship will open up even more opportunities for drivers taking their first steps into the sport. I’m delighted that the BRDC will continue with us for this next chapter as we celebrate ten seasons of working together in 2022.”

Hillspeed team principal Richard Ollerenshaw commented: “This is fantastic news and clearly demonstrates the great value the BRDC place on both of MSV’s single-seater championships. British Formula 3 has always been a championship watched closely by the BRDC, this announcement shows they place the same importance on the GB3 Championship and also the new-for-2022 GB4 Championship just as much.”
