Championship Still On For Hillspeed And Marzorati In GB4 Despite Frustrating Brands Hatch GP Weekend
• Hillspeed’s Max Marzorati departs Brands Hatch second in GB4 standings
• Markham Vale squad leads Teams’ Championship despite hard weekend
• Megan Gilkes also encounters tough event on maiden Brands GP outing
• GB3 racer Nick Gilkes makes progress with weekend best of P6 in finale
Markham Vale team Hillspeed remains in contention for both GB4 Championship partnered by the BRDC titles following the penultimate event of the 2022 season at Brands Hatch GP Circuit over the weekend, 10th/11th September, despite three unexpectedly challenging races.
Going into the race meeting leading the Team Standings and with driver Max Marzorati a close second in the Drivers’ title battle, following rounds 19, 20 and 21 in Kent the squad has remained on top in the Teams’ battle with Marzorati having slipped 31 points behind title rival Nikolas Taylor.
Marzorati took fourth, sixth and sixth in the three contests with team-mate Megan Gilkes, making her first race appearance on the GP Circuit without having tested during the week, having to settle for sixth, seventh and ninth.
In the points standings, Gilkes – who away from GB4 is now working with the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant F1 Team as a trackside support engineer – is in sixth place. She did actually feel unwell for a large part of the weekend, hampering her performance.
In the GB3 Championship partnered by the BRDC, Nick Gilkes – like sister Megan embarking on his first ever race mileage at the GP Circuit – took away a best result of sixth in round 21 on Sunday after a strong drive. In round 19 he finished in 19th position, but was an improved 17th in round 20.
As a mark of respect and to honour the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, a two-minute silence was observed at Brands Hatch and Hillspeed applied black bands to the nose cones of all three cars throughout the race meeting.
