Hillspeed Welcomes Newly Announced 2023 GB3 And GB4 Calendars
MotorSport Vision (MSV) has today, Saturday, 15th October, confirmed the respective provisional calendars for next year’s GB3 Championship partnered by the BRDC and GB4 Championship partnered by the BRDC – and both have been warmly welcomed by Hillspeed.
GB3 will run across and eight event schedule, with no fewer than four of the race meetings taking place on current FIA Formula One circuits, while the GB4 season will be contested over a seven race weekend calendar and will be part of the British GT Championship package for all of the latter’s UK rounds.
In a landmark moment for GB3, the 2023 calendar will feature two overseas events for the first time – the marquee addition is a maiden trip to Zandvoort in the The Netherlands, home of the Dutch Grand Prix, in October where GB3 will support GT World Challenge Europe. Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps remains a key part of the calendar, with next year’s visit in early June. Subject to FIA approval, the extra continental event means GB3 will be elevated to FIA International Series status.
The usual double visit to Silverstone Grand Prix, home of the British Grand Prix of course, ensures half of next year’s GB3 events will be held at current Formula One venues. The first of these will form part of British GT’s blue riband Silverstone 500 meeting, the second will be a headline fixture for the UK’s leading single-seater championship.
Both GB3 and GB4 will maintain MSV’s wider relationship with the SRO-run British GT Championship as GB3 will run at five British GT events, GB4 will be present for all six of British GT’s domestic race meetings.
Oulton Park International Circuit will host the respective championship curtain-raisers for GB3 and GB4 over Easter weekend, from 8th to 10th April, and each of the categories will close out their campaigns at Donington Park over the weekend 21st/22nd October. Thre GB3 season is planned to run over 24 races, GB4 will have a 21 race calendar.
MSV Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer said: “The addition of another current F1 circuit to the calendar will further strengthen GB3’s already considerable appeal. This follows on from the series’ most successful season to date in 2022, where we’ve introduced a new car which incorporates the halo and had in excess of 20 drivers on the grid at every round. Zandvoort has re-established itself as part of the Formula 1 calendar and it’s a circuit with a renowned history of F3-level competition. With the visit to Spa-Francorchamps retained alongside two Silverstone Grand Prix circuit meetings, this is an exceptionally strong calendar for this level of single-seater racing.
“GB4’s calendar builds on the success of an inaugural season that has provided a much needed opportunity for underfunded young drivers to progress their single seater careers. Traditional British circuits offer the perfect learning environment, with circuits like Oulton Park, Snetterton and Brands Hatch, in addition to the Grand Prix circuit at Silverstone, providing challenges that have proved so crucial to the development of numerous F1 stars over the decades.
“We’re delighted to be running alongside SRO’s superb British GT Championship once again, and in GB3’s case, strengthening those ties even closer by joining the GT World Challenge bill for the first time.”
