Hillspeed Congratulates Superstar Slater On Audi F1 Driver Development Berth
Richard Ollerenshaw, Team Principal of multiple race winning GB3 Championship partnered by the BRDC squad Hillspeed, has spoken of his ‘immense pride’ on hearing today’s news the Audi Revolut F1 Team has signed Freddie Slater as the first member of its prestigious Driver Development Programme.
Stratford-upon-Avon racer Slater, of course, competed with Hillspeed in last year’s GB3 campaign where, from just three events contested, he charged to three outstanding race victories and two further second place results.
The highlight performance for both Slater and Hillspeed in 2025 was a truly remarkable wet-weather drive at Belgium’s iconic Spa-Francorchamps, where he charged from the back of the grid to claim a sensational win. Two lights-to-flag victories at the season-opening event at Silverstone GP Circuit were similarly eye-catching.
Slater’s part-season in GB3 was only able to take in nine races, three per weekend, due to his existing commitments in the FIA Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA) where he took a richly deserved title win.
Audi Revolut F1 Team will debut in the FIA Formula One World Championship this year, having taken over the former Sauber F1 Team, and its newly established Driver Development Programme is headed by sportscar legend, and former F1 driver himself, Allan McNish.
Commenting on Slater’s signing, the three-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner said: “In Freddie, we see the immense potential of a future star. His track record is remarkable but, more importantly, he possesses the focus, determination, and willingness to learn that are essential for reaching the pinnacle of our sport.
“He is the ideal candidate to be the first signing of the Audi Driver Development Programme, and we are committed to providing him with the tools, mentorship, and support he needs to succeed as he steps up to Formula 3 with Trident Motorsport. This is the first step in building our future on and off the track.”
